"...
About a week ago, the United Nations came out with
the Millennium Ecological Assessment. This was over
1300 experts from ninety-five countries who looked
at the state of the environment and found that two-thirds
of the eco-systems on the planet are polluted, over
used, in decay. They said human activity is putting
such strain on the natural functions of the Earth
that the ability of the planet's eco-systems to
sustain future generations can no longer be taken
for granted...
...
I think Australia has a remarkable opportunity and
that is to become the world's sustainability superpower.
How's that for a vision for a country?
... You have this
enormous opportunity. I think that you can, I think
that you can capture this opportunity and one of
the reasons that I think so is this book, The Natural
Advantage of Nations.... Australia, this is your
future. These are your young people. Stand up and
be proud. They set out to find best practice and
sustainability from around the world."
